Dartmoor in 2004?

From: cscm88 (cscm@toast.net) | Date: 2003-10-02 17:05:41 UTC
As many of you are aware, 2004 will be the 150th anniversary of
letterboxing. Rustypuff and I have been throwing around the idea of
crossing the pond for a look-see. Anyone else thinking of going?
Anyone have any info on specific dates of events that should not be
missed?

Dartmoor is like our dream vacation [How sick is that?].
Last year I floated the idea with a few letterboxers on heading up a trip there.
I have already contacted the Dartmoor Talk List and they were very enthusiastic, as were other letterboxers.
Could you imagine a joint gathering with letterboxers from England & the US?
Ok - now back to work!!
Leader of the Pack was our first volunteer to go on the trip.

Have fun and get out there and box!!!

If you're going... I would LOVE to go during Feb. or Apr. vacation (from school)!

If you got enough people to travel in a group you might be able to get some sort of deal on airfare. I did a trip with a theater group of about 60 and managed a pretty reasonable deal. We stayed dorms, chartered our own bus for travel. I didn't do any of the arrangements but it was considerably less than if we had each made our own arrangements. Then again, perhaps most people would rather make their own arrangements and not stay in dorms. I, myself, tend to be frugal in my travels!

Hi Memlili

That was my intent - to yield the power of numbers when making
reservations for rooms, buses, etc.
I'm glad this discussion started - we can get an idea of the interest in
this trip.

I would be interested in this. It would have to fall in conjunction
with my journey across europe planned for the spring/earlysummer.
Keep me posted on developments.

I am a transplant form Plymouth, Devon, about 15 miles form Dartmoor, spent
several years letterboxing there. Now living in TN, if you are planning on
going a really good time would be the weekend that the clock changes, either
forwards or backwards, there is a meeting where letterboxers from all over the
country come and buy supplies, clue sheets and exchange clues. They always have
about a dozen or more special walks put out for theses meetings, they stay out
for 6 months and then are replaced for the next meeting.
This is an excellent time to go.

Thanks for the info! We'll definitely keep that in mind.
